Psychotherapy
Specialising in working with children, adolescents and families
Is your child struggling with issues related to anxiety, obsessions, worries, low mood, behavioural difficulties, sleep, attending school or major life changes? Are you looking for support to help your child with mental health or neurodevelopmental difficulties? I am an experienced psychotherapist who can help you and your child better understand the issues, improve family relationships, and learn practical tools and strategies to improve mental health and wellbeing. I can offer face-to-face sessions in my clinic room in St Albans, Hertfordshire or online therapy sessions.
About Me
Lizzie Mitchell, Psychotherapist MBACP (Accred)
With over a decade's experience in the NHS, I also offer an independent private practice working with children, young people and families and support them to improve their mental health and emotional wellbeing using evidence-based practice. My approach is rooted in empathy and creativity, and supports children and their parent/carers to navigate challenges, develop resilience, and build the foundation for a positive future.
Therapy Services
Therapy with children and adolescents
Every child is unique, and their emotional needs may vary. I create a safe and nurturing environment where children can express themselves freely and better understand their difficulties. Through tailored support and age-appropriate interventions, I can help your child navigate the challenges they face and develop the skills they need to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
Therapy with parents
I can work collaboratively with you as parents to better understand your child's difficulties through offering psychoeducation and help equip you with practical strategies and responses that can make a difference in your child's life. The goal is to help strengthen your parent-child relationship and create a supportive family environment so that your child can thrive emotionally.
Therapy for families
In my work with families, I strive to create a collaborative and supportive space where each family member's voice is heard and valued. Whether facing transitions, conflicts, or seeking to enhance overall family wellbeing, as a systemic practitioner my goal is to help your family thrive by improving communication and understanding, alongside strengthening relationships.
How I can help you
-
Contact me by phone or email and we can arrange a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation to discuss your needs and book an initial assessment appointment if it is right for you.
-
During the initial assessment appointment, we will have a conversation about the child, young person or family's current challenges, history, hopes and goals. We can then discuss a personalised therapeutic intervention. There is no commitment to proceed after the first session.
-
If you wish to proceed with the therapy, I usually propose a set of 4-6 sessions initially and then review if any further sessions are required. In some cases, a couple of sessions may be sufficient. The therapy process is unique to each child, young person or family.
